Taking Time to Enjoy Nature

spring earth dayThe sun may finally be shining long enough to get outside, enjoy nature, and take in the beautiful spring surroundings. At this time of year, right around Earth Day, the snow is typically gone, the land is turning green, and flowers are blooming. Have a chat with students about different spring items they have noticed around school and homes.  What people, places, and different spring “things” have they noticed now that winter is a distant memory. There are a lot of spring crafts and even games which would be wonderful to do with different therapy groups. Think outside of the box and find items that will actively engage the kids. All Things Spring

spring verb activitiesMany students are not only learning new academic subjects during school, they are also working on their English language skills. We often take speaking English for granted. Most of us have simply learned it by listening to others, and then fine-tuning it at school. Multilingual learners may need additional help with a variety of tricky areas of the language. One that is often tricky is conjugating the progressive form of verbs. The -ing ending remains in all, but you need to know which helper goes before each in the present, past, and future tenses.  Learning this is not a fun task, so thinking outside of the box is critical to keep students actively engaged.
